Rest In Peace: List of Kenyan Rugby players we have lost in recent years

On Monday, the rugby fraternity was left in shock following the death of Impala Saracens star player, Richard Sidindi Akoth.

Sidindi who used to play as a full back, met his death on after he drowned while swimming at the club’s swimming pool.

Sidindi whose nick name was Real Jadhah Power, was an Information Technology specialist.

We take a look at a number of other Kenyan rugby players who have lost their lives in different circumstances in recent times.

In 2016, Mwamba RFC scrum-half Victor ‘yoods’ Wayodi passed on during his comeback match.

Wayodi collapsed on the pitch after developing breathing difficulties while playing against Nakuru RFC.

In 2017, Nakuru RFC player, Mike Okombe perished after he was stabbed to death by his girlfriend.

According to reports, Okombe attended a party with his girlfriend, and news of his death broke much later. The girlfriend stabbed him to death after an argument.

In July, 2017, KCB  rugby player, James Kilonzo

The young player was gunned down by thugs outside an Mpesa shop it Kasarani area.

Kilonzo died aged 23.

In 2016, talented Nondescript RFC player Ogeto Gecheo passed away.
Ogeto sustained a spinal injury while playing for Nondies in the Kenya cup match against Strathmore in their Kenya Cup fixture.

He underwent successful surgery and had plates affixed on his vertebral column but passed on at the Aga Khan Hospital.
