A five-year-old girl perished in fire incident near Nyeri town while two others are admitted at Nyeri Referral Hospital on Boxing Day.
The child could not be saved after a fierce fire erupted at the mother’s rental house where she was sleeping at Jumea area near Nyeri town along Chania River.
Nyeri Central Deputy Commissioner John Marete said nine semi -permanent rental houses were reduced to ashes during the 11.40P.M incident Tuesday night.
“We wish to thank a 17-year-old boy who saved his three-year-old sister from the fire during the incident,” he said.
The nine families have now been left homeless and spent the night in the cold.
He said the two people who are admitted in hospital are in stable condition.
Efforts by the fire fighters and the neigbours to put off the fire were fruitless.
The cause of the fire was not immediately established.
Marete called upon well wishers to help the families in this festive season.
