Samburu police holding mother for killing her child, injuring another

Police have arrested a woman at Baragoi in Samburu North for killing her two year old child and seriously injuring another one aged seven years by cutting their necks using a knife.

The victim is admitted at Samburu county referral hospital where she is undergoing treatment in a critical condition.

Samburu county police commander Alfred Agengo confirmed the incident on phone saying the suspect has been detained in police custody waiting to be arraigned in court on Monday.

He added that police have launched investigations into the matter to establish the motive of the attack.

Nachola Ward Member of county assembly Lawrence Lorunyei condemned the incident after visiting the victim at the hospital.

“An incident like this has never been witnessed among people from Turkana community, there was no any quarrel or conflict between the suspect and her husband that might have led to this,” he said.

Lorunyei said the suspect is among many people who fled insecurity from their homes in Kawap asking counselors to visit the area and counsel them as they could be suffering from depression.

According to the victim’s father who was away as his wife turned against his children, his wife had a mental problem and that might have contributed to her inhumanly action against their children.

“She had suffered mental problem and gone mad in the past but later returned to be normal, I don’t know if her madness came again. She killed one child and seriously injured the other,” he said at Samburu county referral hospital where he is nursing his injured daughter.
