Security beefed up in Turkana,as oil transportation to resume this week

Turkana governor Josphat Nanok has has assured the public that government has started process to solve the insecurity problem experienced.

"The government has started to deploy additional of police officers and National police reservists as agreed in a meeting with the Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Mwongo Chimwanga on Thursday." he spoke on Saturday in Nadapal at the burial of Dr. Simon Ng'akipi who was the Deputy Sub-county Administrator for Loima.

He revealed that talks to unlock impasse that has grounded crude oil transportation to Mombasa had started, with elected leaders in Turkana East and Turkana South sub countries to engage with residents.

He called on elected leaders to maintain the unity behind the deal struck on oil revenue sharing formula with President Uhuru Kenyatta, in demanding for community rights and other development from the national government.

Nanok also assured the public that views will be collected in legislation by the County Assembly of laws to guide management of oil revenue, but has called for patience for parliament to pass the Petroleum Bill (2015).

He said the divisive debate on management of five percent local community share was premature as it will be long before the County receives the funds.

"We witnessed the reaction from residents with people demanding cash transfers of funds from the community share forgetting that we are yet to pass laws that will determine its spending. The Petroleum Bill that set the ratios in now at the senate having just been passed by the National Assembly when the time comes we will sit and determine how the funds will be spent," he said.

Reaching out the comment of Turkana County commissioner Seif Matata, he said he confirmed that a GSU police unit has been deployed to a new base in Lokori to arrest the insecurity problem.

"The government has honoured our grievances which leaders and residents of Turkana east and south had tabled. More than 600 police officer have been deployed with additional armoured vehicles deployed to Kapedo." Matata said.

Matata also revealed the plans of the government that more police officers and police reservists will be deployed to ensure every citizen is protected especial in prone areas of banditry attacks.
