Shock As AP Officer Kills Self At Chief's Camp In Garissa

An administration police officer last evening shot himself dead at a chief’s camp in Garissa.

According to his colleagues the officer was stressed after serving in the region for three years and instead of being transferred to a better place he was transferred to Ijara AP camp, close to a Police post that was attacked by Al-shabaab bandits late last year.

The officers said they have undergone sufferings and the senior officers were not willing to address them. The body was moved to a mortuary ahead of it's transfer to Nairobi. This is the latest incident involving police in a series that have been reported of late.

Police say such cases are on the rise due to stress in the service.

Meanwhile, Police are looking for a gang that attacked a man outside a bank in the central business district and robbed him of Sh300,000.

The man had withdrawn the money from Barclays bank and was walking home when men posing as police officers struck. They bundled him into a waiting car and drove to Upper Hill area where they abandoned him and escaped with the money.

Police believe such crimes are committed through collusion between the bank officials and the thugs. A team is pursuing the gang. In the city, police are looking for a gang that was shot and injured before they abandoned their motorbike.

The gang had been attacking pedestrians and robbing them of cash when police were alerted. The gang escaped.
