An elderly ex-priest who split from his much younger husband after buying him a luxury flat in Bucharest says he now hopes they will get back together.
Retired vicar Philip Clements, 79, married Florin Marin, 24, after meeting on a dating website in what he said was a stand against Church of England rules that bar clergymen from same-sex marriage.
But the relationship soured and - after Mr Clements sold his £214,000 home near Sandwich, Kent to buy Marin an apartment in Romania - the pair split, leaving the former priest nearly penniless.
Mr Clements has now spoken of his hopes that he will rekindle his relationship with his estranged husband and has vowed to write the party-loving Romanian into his will.
The 79-year-old explained: 'I have got to be realistic. I am 80 in August and I want to see him secure.
'He is the only one I can leave things to. I don't see much of my brothers, and they wouldn't need it. If it goes well, he will be in my will.'
The pair's marriage last year, and the accompanying publicity, made Marin a minor-celebrity in his home country and he has since appeared on a number of TV shows.
He and Mr Clements split after his party-loving lifestyle in Bucharest became too much for the older man, who was funding it, to take.
Soon after the split, Marin found a new man who he boasted was 'richer than Philip'.
Mr Clements said of the relationship: 'Romanian TV has a habit of making things into mini soap operas where they make some sort of story around ordinary people.
'Due to the fact I had left him, they [the TV producers] arranged for him to meet this man.
'The story was invented. He is not with him now, even if he was with him. 'I'm pretty sure he wasn't with him, and it was a made up thing.'
He said: 'We have learned. We have both had to adjust. There were rumours he was with somebody else, but he has denied that.
'We are planning to spend September and Christmas together, and hopefully it can go from there. But we don't want to jump too far just yet.
'He is young, and has plans ahead of him. But I don't think I'm going to die just yet, there is a few years left in the old boy.'
He added: 'I'm pretty determined it will work out. We laugh a lot, we are very relaxed around each other, I think this was a phase we needed to get out of our system.
'He is my husband. I want him to feel secure. I haven't got much to leave him at the moment, as I sold the house.'
Mr Clements added: 'He is not in it for the money. He knows I don't have a lot.'
His comments may raise eyebrows among his family, who previously warned the pensioner against the relationship.
Speaking to the Mail earlier this year, his brother Tony, 68, said: 'He would say: "I don't know how many years I've got left. I want to live life to the full".
'I kept telling him: "Don't be a bloody fool". But it was all about this Florin. Philip didn't seem to care about anyone else.'
