Former boss Sir Alex Ferguson congratulated for breaking his record of most games in charge of a top-flight side.

Wenger led his side out for the 811th time on Sunday as Arsenal were frustrated to a 1-1 draw against .

His old adversary Ferguson put their differences aside to applaud Wenger on an achievement which he thinks will never be broken.

In a statement via the League Managers' Association, Ferguson said: 'I applaud Arsene on surpassing my record of managing 810 Premier League games.

'It is a fantastic milestone which has required the highest standards of dedication and professional management to achieve.'

Wenger has been in charge of the Gunners for 22 years and spent many of them pitted in a fierce rivalry with Ferguson.

The two men regularly clashed on the sideline but Ferguson believes his former rival's record will stand alone in a era of frequent sackings.

He added: 'I doubt his record, whatever it turns out to be, will ever be beaten.

'Congratulations on a truly remarkable career and great service to football and Arsenal FC.'

Wenger was in no mood to celebrate his new record after a controversial late penalty robbed his side of three points at the Hawthorns.

The boss confronted referee Mike Dean after the match to argue against the decision to award a hand-ball against Calum Chambers.

Arsenal currently sit fifth in the league and the Frenchman will hope for a fruitful second half of the season as pressures mounts over his position at the club.
