Gatundu South MP-elect Moses Kuria has asked the salaries commission to slash his pay by a further 15 per cent.

The commission announced pay cuts for state officers, including the President, Deputy President, MPs, CSs and other officials.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Kuria told the Sarah Serem team to revoke his allowances.

"I commend you for revoking all my sitting allowances, otherwise, I would have been tempted to also claim squatting or sleeping allowances."

The legislator said the proposed pay reductions, which were supported by President Uhuru Kenyatta, will help raise funds for free day secondary education.

"I trust that with my reduced salary and no sitting allowances, we can now work towards subsidising fees in boarding schools," he said.

He said the saved monies can be spent on providing free meals for poor malnourished children in primary schools.

"If we do that, we will reduce the strain on our bursaries thus reducing my headache as Member of Parliament for Gatundu South."

This came as some MPs, who were elected on August 8, called on the SRC to raise their salaries arguing its not enough for them.

Kuria further called on Serem to work with the 12th Parliament towards reducing the many political offices in this country.

"We must work together towards a target of no more than 35 per cent of our budget going to recurrent expenditure," he said.

He said 65 per cent of the country's revenue be reserved as capital expenditure that will spur development, long term growth, and prosperity.

SRC proposed a new pay structure before the August 8 general election that slashed MPs' salaries from Sh 710,000 to Sh 621, 250 per month.

It put sitting allowances at a maximum of Sh80,000 for MPs and Sh128,000 committee chairs, and removed mileage reimbursement.

The Sh5 million car grant was also done away with, although MPs are now entitled to a Sh7 million car loan.
