Alice Maitha passed away on Tuesday at the Coast General Hospital.
She is the widow of the former Kenyan Tourism and Wildlife Minister Karisa Maitha who suffered a massive heart attack while in Germany on an official trip.
Maitha, who died during an interview with a Kenyan journalist working for the German national radio, Deutche Welle, becomes the fourth minister to die in office during President Mwai Kibaki's administration.
Kibaki, who was on a working trip to the coastal province, where the minister hails from, sent condolence messages to his family.
In the message, Kibaki said he has lost a friend, a comrade and a hardworking public servant.
The minister died shortly after being rushed to the Geist Hospital in Frankfurt, Germany, where doctors attempted to administer artificial heart resuscitation.
Maitha was diagnosed with a heart ailment in 1997 after leaving prison after serving a short-term in captivity over incitement charges, according to family sources.
According to Mildred Ngesa, the journalist phone-interviewing the minister before the heart attack, the late Maitha started gasping for breath and coughing violently before asking for the postponement of the interview to another time.
