Suspect Who Confessed To Rape And Robbery With Violence To Be Arraigned In Court

A suspect arrested over wave of killings and robberies in Mt Elgon is expected in court this morning in Nairobi.

Timothy Kiptanui Kitai will appear in court before being moved to Bungoma where he will face the charges.

He is said to have confessed to 16 robbery with violence charges and rape incidents in the areas. Kitai on whose head bounty of Sh1 million was placed in March surrendered to the police two weeks ago and was remanded in police custody for ten days to allow police conclude their investigations.

His gang is responsible for killing more than 40 people early this year during a renewed wave of attacks.

The area has been calm since Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi imposed a 90-day 6pm to 6am curfew in Cheptais Sub-County, where the gang used to operate freely, according to locals.
