A suspected thug was last night shot dead in a botched robbery in Kibera slums, Nairobi.
Police say they recovered a gun from the man. He is said to have been in the company of three others and were attacking residents when an alarm was raised. This prompted police action that left one of them dead while his accomplices escaped on foot. Police say the men had been linked to a number of attacks there. The body was moved to the mortuary.
Meanwhile, a police officer has been arrested after he reported he had lost his gun in Langata, Nairobi. The officer had been away off duty in a nearby slum where he claims he was robbed of the gun. He was arrested when he came to report the incident and police say they are still looking for the weapon.
