HILARIOUS! Machakos Governor, Alfred Mutua Falls Into Kisii River ‘While Taking Selfies’

The bridge at River Gucha collapsed on Friday morning as Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and Kisii DG Joash Maangi stood on it.

Some reports indicated that it caved in as they took selfies while others said the Governor had bent to check the depth when the incident took place.

They were with several people who accompanied them to a inspection of road projects in Ogembo town.

Mutua and Maangi were pulled out and rushed to Ogembo Hospital in Kisii County in an ambulance.

The Governor dismissed the report about selfies.

“I have been baptised by River Gucha and now I must build a house in Gucha,” he said, as reported by Radio Citizen.

When called by the Star, he said he was safe and that he was having lunch at Maangi’s home.

“The bridge caved in after a crowd of those who accompanied us joined us,” he said.

Kisii Communication director Maseme Machuka said the bridge was weak.  The Ogembo post office-Nyakorokoro footbridge was constructed by the Ministry of Public Works as part of the Economic Stimulus Project under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

“The Governor and DG were unhurt in the incident and they went on to address residents before going for lunch,” he said.

He added that two journalists were taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital with minor injuries.

My Machakos Victory Sets Pace For 2022 Presidential Race, Says Mutua

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has termed his win against Wavinya Ndeti as a relief from Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s yoke.

He said the result is worth celebrating since it has liberated Ukambani residents from the chains of the bad leadership that has stagnated the region’s development.

“Machakos residents have demonstrated that they are tired with politics of sycophancy, ethnicity, and propaganda.”

He said: “The victory today is just the beginning. We have started the journey to State House in 2022.”

“The presidency will come to Machakos immediately Uhuru Kenyatta is done with his second term,” Mutua said.

The governor, who defended his seat through the Maendeleo Chap Chap party, accused Kalonzo of staging arsenals to remove him from office.

He told journalists, during his victory address at the county headquarters, that the campaign was based on the fruits of his administration’s labor.

“I did not give even a shilling to electorates during my campaigns. Everybody in the county know that I did not bribe for votes,” said Mutua.

He said politicians should not bribe to rise to power.

“Machakos residents have demonstrated they cannot vote anti-development leaders,” he added.

“This has been the best managed election in Kenya since independence. It mirrors what happens in Europe.”

Mutua said Kenyans should learn conceding defeat once beaten in polls.

“We need to create a culture of conceding defeat once beaten in elections. This nation is greater than all leaders,” Mutua said on Wednesday.

But Ndeti, citing massive malpractices, said she will explore all possible avenues to challenge the results.

“We are not accepting the results because we know what happened on the ground. The exercise was marred by serious election malpractices.”

“This is not a banana republic. It is not over as far as we are concerned,” Ndeti said insisting that she won the race.

By press time, Mutua was leading with 239,668 votes while Ndeti had garnered 207,000 votes in 1280 out of 1332 polling stations.

Machakos governor Mutua condemns ‘undemocratic’ Wiper party

Photo: file

Machakos governor Alfred Mutua has castigated the move by Wiper party, led by former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka to eject MPs Regina Ndambuki (Kilome), Joe Mutambu (Kitui Central) and John Munuve (Mwingi North) from Parliamentary Committees.

Mutua has described the move as a sign of intolerance and lack of democracy, reminiscent of the KANU era when freedom of expression or association was curtailed.

“They are supporters of Maendeleo Chap Chap movement that seeks to transform what has been empty talk and political promises into real change and development,” Mutua said.

Mutua has noted that Wiper’s message “is that anyone who attempts to change things so as to bring development will be punished so that our mothers, fathers and youth continue to languish in poverty forever.”

EACC, DPP given green light to prosecute Alfred Mutua over Bribery allegations

The DPP and the EACC can now go ahead and prosecute Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua over the alleged illegal procurement of motor vehicles for his county after an order barring the probe was lifted.

The court has ruled that Mutua’s petition lacks merit. Mutua had moved to court seeking orders to bar EACC from investigating him over the said allegations. The matter will be heard on April 14.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Auditor General says it lacks capacity to audit all 47 counties effectively. Auditor general Edward Ouko says his office is understaffed which leads to poor auditing.

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua put two county executives on three months’ compulsory leave in cabinet changes announced on Thursday.

Mutua sent Francis Maliti (Water) and Larry Wambua (Public Service) on leave amid the changes which he said are over lethargy, corruption, insubordination, sabotage and laxity.

“If you want to be corrupt, move away from Machakos,” he said in a press conference at his office in Machakos town and asked county staff to either get on board with his Maendeleo Chap Chap ideology or quit.

Chief mechanical engineer Peter Kimeu and Roads director David Mbatha were suspended indefinitely.

The Governor said Grace Mungut will act as county secretary, and appointed Julius Muingai acting Roads chief officer.
