‘I Will Still Go To Heaven’ Says Man Who Was Jailed For Defiling His 11-year-old Daughter

A 43-year-old school teacher has been imprisoned for life for incest and defiling his 11-year-old daughter.

The man is accused of committing the offence on June 10 at his home in Kibokoni area of Malindi subcounty.

He rejected the verdict and told the court that even if he dies in prison, he will still go to heaven.

During sentencing, the father asked the court to read a Bible verse.

Chief magistrate Julie Oseko denies him his request and noted he had committed a serious offence.

“He is a teacher and has also put the lives of other children at risk. He does not deserve to return to the community … the court will therefore give a deterrent sentence,” she said.

The magistrate said although the penalty attracts 10 years, the court will give the man the maximum sentence.

Oseko said the accused has a right to appeal in 14 days if unhappy with the verdict.

Man Who Raped His Daughters Has Life Imprisonment Sentence Reduced To 20 Years Jail Term

A 73 years old defilement convict got a reprieve after the high court in Murang’a reduced his sentence from life imprisonment to a 20 years jail term.

Kamau Chege had been convicted of defiling his two daughters on February 10, 2012 at Gitugu village in Kangema, Murang’a County and was serving his sentence at Kamiti Maximum Prison.

The girls were aged 16 and 17 years and were in standard 6 and 7.

Chege had filed an appeal seeking to have the life imprisonment reduced and had already served 5 years of his sentence.

While reading the judgment, Judge Hatari Waweru on Friday said the prisoner’s age was not considered when he was handed the life imprisonment sentence.

Waweru said the Kangema magistrate’s court gave the sentence on September 13, 2012 based on his two counts of defilement.

He added that the lower court was guided by the corroborative evidence provided by the prosecution including a medical report that confirmed that the two minors had been defiled.

Hatari also noted that the life sentence is the highest sentence for the offence and is not a mandatory sentence.

The judge in his judgement said the elderly convict would serve a 10 year sentence for each of the two charges and that the two sentences will run concurrently.

“The two sentences will be dated from the day he was sentenced by the lower court,” he added.

The suspect’s wife passed away years ago before the elderly man started defiling his two daughters repeatedly.

The convict was arrested after a neighbor reported the matter to the local chief and the local children department’s office.
