Tanzia:Mhadhiri wa UoN Ken Ouko afariki dunia kwa ajili ya Covid 19

Mhadhiri wa chuo kikuu cha Nairobi anayefahamika na wengi na  mwanasosholojia Ken Ouko ameaga  dunia .

Mkurugenzi wa mawasiliano wa chuo hicho  John Orindi  amethibitisha kwamba Ouko amefariki jumaosi asubuhi  baada la kulazwa hospitalini .Ouko ameaga duni kwa ajili ya virusi vya corona .

Aliyekuwa afisa mkuu mtendaji wa Nasa Norman Magaya  ni miongoni mwa waliotumia twitter  kuomboleza kifo cha Ouko

Aliyekuwa mgombeaji wa kiti cha ubunge cha Kibra  Eliud Owalo pia alimuomboleza Ken kupitia twitter akisema ;

Chuo kikuu cha Nairobi kimefutilia mbali mipango ya kurejelea shughuli zake  septemba  baada ya wafanyikazi wake watatu kupatikana na virusi vya corona .

Uamuzi huo umeafikiwa na senate ya chuo hicho baada ya kufanya mkutano siku ya jumatano  .Naibu mhadhiri huu wa chuo hicho Stephen Kiama amesema senate sasa itatoa tarehe mpya za kufunguliwa taasisi hiyo . Mojawapo ya kinachoweza kuamuliwa ni kufunguliwa kwa chuo hicho katikati ya mwezi novemba  endapo visa vya coronavirus nchini vitapungua .

Hata hivyo Kiama amesema  mafunzo na masomo yataendelea kupitia nia za mitandao  na hakuna  mwanafunzi anayefaa kuhitimu mwaka huu  atakosa kufanya hivyo . Waziri wa elimu George Magoha  mwezi juni alikuwa ametangaza kwamba  shule zitafunguliwa januari mwakani .hata hivyo  kufunguliwa kwa taasisi za elimu ya juu kulitarajia kutegemwa kupungua kwa visa vya ugonjwa huo  nchini .

Wanafunzi 80 wa sheria chuo cha Nairobi wawasilisha kesi kupinga masomo ya dijitali

Wanafunzi 80 katika chuo kikuu cha Nairobi wanaosomea taaluma ya uanasheria siku ya Jumatatu waliwasilisha kesi mahakamani kupinga masomo ya dijitali ambayo yamependekezwa na usimamizi wa chuo hicho.

Kulingana na wanafunzi hao, hatua ya kuanza kutoa mafunzo kupitia mfumo wa dijitali haikuafikiwa. Wanafunzi hao vile vile walidai kwamba asilimia kubwa ya wanafunzi wanaosoma katika chuo hicho wanaishi maeneo ambayo hawana uwezo wa kunufaika na mfumo dijitali.

Wamesema ni vyema chuo hicho kuendelea na mfumo wa kawaida ili kutoa mafunzo kwa wanafunzi wote.

 

“Mfumo wa dijitali hautatoa fursa ya kuwepo kwa mashauriano ya moja kwa moja baina ya wanafunzi na wahadhiri, hakuna nafasi ya kutosha kuingia maktabani na kufikia huduma zingine za moja kwa moja, na ingekuwa vyema kama karo ingepunguzwa,” walisema wanafunzi hao.

Katika notisi aliyotuma siku ya jumapili waziri Magoha alisema mshikilizi wa kudumu wa wadhifa huo atateuliwa baada ya mashauriano. Lakini  aliongeza kwamba Kiama angeendelea kuhudumu katika wadhifa wake wa hapo awali kama naibu chansela anayesimamia wafanyikazi na utawala .

University Of Nairobi Closed Indefinitely Due To Security Concerns

University of Nairobi has been closed indefinitely following student unrest.

The learners blocked Lower Kabete Road protesting last Thursday’s invasion and assault by police.

The University Senate announced the immediate closure citing deteriorating security situation.

Vice Chancellor Peter Mbithi, through Twitter on Tuesday, said students should vacate halls residence not later than 9.00am.

Last night, students at the main campus also held demonstrations and barricaded Mamlaka Road and State House Road.

This was before police dispersed them.

The students demanded that Prof Mbithi resigns accusing him of inviting the anti-riot police to invade their lecture halls and hostels to assault them.

Pope Francis’ Visit Program Revealed

The program for the Pope’s visit to Kenya has been revealed.

Pope Francis is expected to land at the JKIA on Wednesday 25th November at 1700h.

After landing he will head to State House where he will be hosted for a welcome ceremony by the Head of State, President Uhuru Kenyatta. The welcoming ceremony has been scheduled to begin at 1800h.

The Pope will conclude the first day of his maiden papal visit to Africa by having a meeting with Kenyan authorities and diplomats at State House.

His second day is going to be understandably busy and he will start his day at 0815h with an Inter-religious and ecumenical meeting at the Apostolic Nunciature in Nairobi.

This will be followed by a public mass at the University of Nairobi which will begin at 1000h.

After that, Pope Francis will have a meeting with the clergy and seminarians at the St. Mary’s School grounds in Nairobi. This meeting will commence at 1545h.

At 1730h, Pope Francis will be at the UNEP headquarters in Gigiri and that will mark the end of his activities on his second day in the country.

Pope Francis will begin his third day at 0830h with a visit to Kangemi Slums before having a meeting with Kenyan youth at Kasarani from 1000h.

At 1115h he will meet with Kenyan bishops at the Kasarani Stadium lounge.

A farewell ceremony will be hosted in his honor at the JKIA starting 1510h before he leaves for Uganda at 1530h.

Polisi wanachunguza mauaji ya kutatanisha ya wanafunzi wawili wa chuo kikuu cha Nairobi mwishoni mwa wiki uliyopita.

Julius Omondi mwenye umri wa miaka 22 na rafiki yake Mohamed Yusuf walipoteza maisha yao baada ya kushambuliwa na genge moja katika hali isiojulikana.

UoN Ranked Kenya’s Best University

The University of Nairobi is the best in Kenya, according to the just-released ranking of world universities by Webometrics.

The site ranked UoN 7th in Africa and 855 in the world.

In East Africa, UoN beat Uganda’s Makerere University (position 13), the University of Dar es Salaam (37), Kenyatta University (38) and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (44).

The performance is the best result posted by any local university since the advent of web ranking in 2004.

Among private institutions, Mt Kenya University improved from last year’s position 10 to 8.

This means MKU is the third best private university in Kenya after Strathmore and Africa Virtual University.

UoN GET NEW VICE CHANCELLOR

Peter Mbithi is the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Nairobi. Mbithi replaces George Magoha who served in the same capacity at the institution for 10 years. Mbithi will serve in that position for 5 years with effect from January 6 2015.
