Three people have been admitted at Samburu County Referral hospital after they ate poisonous meat yesterday.

The hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Dr Robert Nato, said the hospital received nine patients who had fallen sick after eating meat from a carcass of a goat that had died on September19, 2016 after an injection.

According to the victims, the goat succumbed to an unknown disease it had been suffering from for some days.

Dr Nato said the patients, all from one family, were vomiting as they complained of severe abdominal pains, stomachache and headache.

“We have one old man and two females admitted in critical condition, the children were not badly affected, they were treated and discharged immediately,” said Dr. Nato.

He said six patients including four children were treated and discharged in a stable condition after a few hours upon responding positively to treatment.

However, Samburu Central OCPD, Mr Abaggarro Guyo said a total of 15 people ate the poisonous meat but six were not affected.

"They included six children, seven women and two men. Their condition is stable and some are under close observation from doctors,” he said

Nato and Guyo warned residents against eating carcasses of dead animals and any form of meat that has not been inspected and approved to be safe for human consumption by a public health officer.
