Three people die of Cholera in Turkana

Feared cholera outbreak in Turkana has reported more than three deaths as more cases are being reported during heavy rainfall that is hitting the region.
Confirming the incident, County Health and sanitation Executive officer Jane Ajele, On Monday at her office said that the first case of cholera was reported on 11th January 2018 in katilu,Turkana south where 178 cases were reported .
"Two deaths were reported in katilu, Turkana South. We managed to control the issue of cholera mainly by providing purified water, drugs for treating water and educating the community about helth and sanitation. " She said.
She said the situation in Turkana south is calm as they have not admitted any patient with case of cholera in the region.
Mrs. Ajele said that Turkana central has reported the first case of cholera on 27th of February in Naotin village whereby one the community had visited a relative in Katilu, Turkana south for the wedding ceremony fete,when she came back she contracted cholera infection and spread in Turkana central.
"The health officers are trying to control the situation of cholera issues in Kalokol and Longechi which are located at the showers of the Lake." she said
A total of 48 cases has been reported in Kalokol and Longechi, they are in a stable condition, isolated and undergoing treatment but one person from Kalokol has been confirmed dead of cholera.
She said Cholera has hit the region , we are getting challenges to access to both kalokol and longechi as the heavily rainfall is being experienced.
 "We are forced to use boats to dispatch the washing materials and drugs to Longechi side,because roads are impassable thus vehicles  cant cross to Longechi. we have also banned the fish trade in Turkana till the situation of cholera calm down." Mrs. Ajele said.
