Toldo Narrates How He Was Locked In A Cell For Not Bribing A Traffic Cop

Popular Radio Jambo presenter, Toldo Qurya has had a week to forget. This is after he had an altercation with a traffic cop for overlapping early last week which saw him locked up inside Parklands police cell for an hour and charged in court.

Speaking to Word Is, presenter who doubles up as a football commentator cum analyst, he is yet to come to terms with how a minor offence turned into a near ugly incidence between him and the cop, namely Mr. Humphrey Mihitha. He however believes it all boils down to when he refused to offer him a bribe.

"I was driving to Chiromo from Nairobi but in mind I knew I was supposed to head to Westlands so I had to make a turn just past Chiromo, and that's where all the drama unfolded when the Traffic Cop, Mr. Mihitha spotted me and flagged me down." Narrated the presenter who hosts the Weekend Warm up and World of sports shows, on Saturdays and Sundays.

"So he asked why I had overlapped and highlighted my offence, so I explained what just happened but he went on to ask for three thousand shillings. I told him I had no money on me and he lowered the figure to two thousand shillings, so we settled for one thousand Shillings and After handing it to him, I asked why he flagged me down yet he could not deal with a number of matatus which were overlapping under his watch.

That's where he got agitated and hell broke loose threatening to take me to the police station, he pushed me aside throwing the one thousand shillings note I had given him at me, yelling "Sitaki pesa yako".

I refused to take back the cash since he had already taken it and we got into the car but then again the officer insisted on sitting on the co-driver's seat against my will since there was no law that states so. As he forced his way In my car, he was trying to force the same thousand note into my pocket but I brushed his hand off and that is where he accused me off being rude and that I was standing in the way of him and his duties." He narrated.

When they got to the station he was thrown into a cell without being booked in the Occurrence book. Inside the cell Toldo met two children one who was locked for crossing the road, while the younger boy was a lost kid from Maasai land who was apparently being sheltered here as the police officers   traced his parents.

"So later on I paid a Sh10,000 cash bail and I was released. A day later I was arraigned in court for overlapping and I was forced to pay a one thousand shillings fine for the offence." Added Toldo, claiming that he is yet to understand why he was locked inside children's cell.
