Tough luck for ailing journalist Dennis Omondi who is in India

A Kenyan journalist Dennis Musundi Omondi undergoing treatment in India has suffered a major blow to after he failed to find a compatible bone marrow donor.

Omondi who was to undergo bone marrow transplant this week will have to wait longer after four of his brothers test as donors failed to match with him.

“My four brothers have done bone marrow test as donors but unfortunately none of them matches with me. With this it means I will have to wait for long as hospital figure out where on earth to get someone who similar cells/bone marrow like mine. This means more cost,”said Omondi.

Journalist have since his sickness had a united front in the campaign of raising sh 6.5 million towards his treatment.

The cause received a boost after machakos governor Alfred Mutua last week gave a personal cheque of sh 500,000.

The 31-year-old photojournalist at West Media, was diagnosed with Acute Leukemia (Cancer of the blood cells) at Kenyatta National Hospital on January 10 and since then, life has not been the same for him and his family.

After weeks of treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital, Omondi was flown to India for specialized treatment, since the largest referral hospital in East and Central Africa does not have the facilities.

Omondi is currently admitted to Apollo Hospital in India, where he is supposed to undergo Bone Marrow transplant.
