Apart from Uhuru Kenyatta, several dignitaries and thousands of Rwandese nationals are expected to attend also.

Uhuru, who was accompanied by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, departed the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport shortly before 9:00 am.

They were seen off by Acting Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, Chief of Defence Forces Samson Mwathethe and other senior government officials.

Uhuru is attending the ceremony to show Kenya's solidarity with the people of Rwanda and their government.

In his congratulatory message, Uhuru said the re-election of President Kagame renews friendship and alliance between the two countries.

Kagame was handed another seven-year term in office following his victory in the August 4 poll.

Uhuru is among 20 heads of state and government  expected to attend the ceremony at Amahoro National Stadium for the fete.

Kagame garnered 98.79 per cent of the total votes cast in the poll that attracted two other candidates.
