A man allegedly chopped off his five-year-old nephew's penis at Weruga village, Wundanyi, Taita Taveta county on Tuesday.
Neighbours said they are not aware of the the circumstances under which the boy's uncle committed the heinous act.
"The man disappeared after the incident," one of the neighbours said adding that they are searching for him.
"The boy was rushed to Moi referral hospital in Voi but couldn't get much help due to ongoing nurses' strike."
The family says plans are underway to airlift the patient to Nairobi Hospital for specialised treatment.
