Unyama! 35-Year-Old Father Of 5 Murdered, Hacked To Death In Lamu

A hotelier was on Saturday night murdered in cold blood by unknown assailants in Bombay area, Lamu.

Jackson Wasi, 35, who worked as a hotelier in Shella area was accosted and attacked by a machete-wielding gang at around 10.00pm and hacked to death.

He had just left his place of work and was heading home to Bombay where he lived with his young wife and five children.

The attackers made away with his wallet and phone.

He had deep panga cut wounds on his head, stomach and hands.

A group of good Samaritans however found him and rushed him to the Lamu county hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

"They hit him with blunt objects on the head and also cut him with machetes on the head, stomach and hands. It was painful. It's strange because he was a quiet person and had no grudges with anyone. We hope the killers are brought to book," John Mnyaka who was among those who rushed the late to the hospital said.

Following the incident, non-locals in Lamu town took to the streets to protest against increased attacks on them.

They marched to the County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo’s office and demanded to know why such attacks were rampant yet police claim to do regular patrols.

"This isn’t the first time such an attack is happening or someone is dying. We are told not to worry since police patrol those areas yet we continue to die. What makes us angry is that only non-locals are attacked and killed," Ephantus Kirima, a local resident said.

Lamu County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo confirmed the incident and said investigations have been launched to unearth the killers and the motive behind this heinous act.

"We shall find out who did this and why. In the meantime we have increased patrols in the area. We can't have such incidents repeating themselves here," Kitiyo said.
