With action coming to a close on the opening day of the USA Sevens, the fifth round of the HSBC Sevens World Series taking place in Las Vegas, Kenya is still in with a chance of reaching the cup quarterfinals from a very competitive Pool B.

Kenya started their campaign with a 22-21 win over Canada while England edged Argentina 19-17. The second round of matches saw Kenya fall 14-19 to the Argentines while Canada stunned England 15-12 to leave the pool wide open heading into the final of fixtures.

Below is the analysis of how the Kenyans performed:

Kenya 22 Canada 21 (HT 12-14)

Felix Ochieng’s troops trailed 0-14 early in this fixture but pulled one back through Michael Wanjala’s unconverted effort before Lavin Asego converted Dan Sikuta’s try to see them trail by two points at the break.

A third converted try saw Canada pull away, 21-14 they led but two late tries from Sikuta and Billy Odhiambo sealed the win.

Kenya 14 Argentina 19 (HT 7-14)

A marked improved for Kenya against an Argentina side that beat them 31-7 last weekend. The Argentines still had the upper hand, going 14-0 up through two converted tries before Oscar Ayodi opened for Kenya, his converted try seeing them trail by seven points at the break.

A third try in early second half saw Argentina go 19-7 up. Lavin Asego would convert Billy Odhiambo’s try to make it 19-14.

Kenya will rue the inability to turn possession in points late in the game and face England at 12.30 am in a match they must win to keep their cup quarter final dream alive.
