Veteran Coach James Siang'a Passes On

Former Harambee stars and Gor Mahia coach James Siang'a has died.

The late legendary footballer is said to have passed on yesterday in Bungoma, according to multiple reports.

The late Siang'a was inducted into the hall of fame late October last year, after a long and illustrious career.

According to the late Siang'a died in Bungoma after a long battle with illness.

Goal.com spoke to Kefoca official Bob Oyugi, Siang’a, who said Siang'a died at midnight on Friday September 9, ending a career of one of the most respected players the country has ever produced.

“We have lost our very own Siang’a. The former international died on Friday night according to family members. We are waiting for more information from them on the way forward. May his soul Rest in internal peace,” Oyugi told Goal.

Siang’a played as a goalkeeper and turned out at international level for Kenya. He featured for Kenya at the 1972 African Cup of Nations finals. Siang’a also managed Kenya between 1999 and 2000.

He then moved to Tanzania, where he managed the national team Taifa Stars in 2002. Siang’a also managed Tanzanian club sides Simba SC and Moro United as well as Express in Uganda. In October 2004, while at Moro United, Siang’a was approached to become the manager of Taifa Stars again, but he refused.

Siang’a also coached Mtibwa Sugar in Tanzania before becoming coach of Gor Mahia in Kenya. He was later to be inducted into the prestigious Kenyan football Hall of Fame.
