Olympic Champion and reigning world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge has donated one of the shoes he wore on his way to victory during the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Kipchoge donated the winning left shoe.

The shoe will be on display at the six-month “Heritage World Athletics Championships Exhibition” which is set to open in Doha on April 18, 2019.

Upon donating the shoe, Kipchoge expressed joy knowing that his career “Will be permanently represented in the IAAF Heritage Collection.”

The 2018 IAAF World Athlete of the Year also gave a signed copy of the book containing his world record run experience in Berlin.

“My running career has still far to go but I’m proud to donate one of my shoes from my Rio victory to be preserved for future generations of fans and publicly displayed. I hope it helps to motivate more people to take up the wonderful sport of running.” Kipchoge was quoted by IAAF.

On Thursday, 18 April, IAAF president Sebastian Coe alongside Dahlan Al Hamad, will officially open the much anticipated heritage exhibition in the City Center Doha, Qatar’s largest shopping mall.
