Wilson Kipsang wins the 2017 Tokyo marathon in 2:03:58, Sarah Chepchirchir sets new record in womens win in 2:19:47

Kenyan marathoner Wilson Kipping and Sarah Chepchirchir yesterday went for the spoils winning in the mens and womens race respectively.

Wilson Kipsang was going for the world record of 2:02:57 set by Dennis Kimetto in 2014, and had predicted he would set a 2:02.50 record.

He however won it in 2:03:58, meaning Dennis Kimetto's word record is safe for now.

On the women’s side, Sarah Chepchirchir set a new Tokyo marathon record in 2:19:47. She is now considered the 16th fastest woman of all-time.
