A 22-year-old woman accused of trying to defraud her father of KES 100,000 by pretending that she had been kidnapped has been charged in a Nairobi court.

Ann Wambui Maina, a mother of three was charged together with her alleged husband Douglas Vusaka Jimugeni with attempt to extort by threats contrary to the law.

They allegedly committed the act on different dates between March 25 2015 and April 2 2015 at Kawangware-Kabiria area in Nairobi.

The two were accused of sending threatening messages to the woman’s father Joseph Maina Mwangi claiming hat his daughter had been kidnapped and would be killed within two days if KES 100,000 was not sent through M-Pesa for her release.

The father to Wambui appeared before the Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Lucy Mbugua and requested that the two be granted a non-custodial sentence because he has forgiven them.

The prosecution did not object the application on the grounds that the father was willing to withdraw the complaint.
