A personal assistant to Cotu secretary general Francis Atwoli has said the lives of Atwoli and other officials are in danger after they were implicated in the death of former deputy SG George Muchai.

In a report carried in standardmeida.co.ke Moses Nandalwe, an aide to Atwoli, said utterances by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and his Thika Town counterpart Alice Ng’ang’a claiming Atwoli’s involvement in Muchai’s death, have endangered the SG’s life.

"Even as the government conducts probe on Muchai's murder, we want the security of Cotu boss Francis Atwoli to be beefed up. We also want politicians to stop making reckless remarks that may put the lives of other people in danger," Nandalwe said at a funeral.

Nandalwe was speaking after attending a funeral in Sirisia constituency on Saturday.

The aide said the speculative statements by the leaders are a diversionary tactic and challenged those with evidence to present it to the police for investigation.

Coutu echoed Nandwale’s sentiments and expressed full support for Atwoli.

The union said in a statement attributed to acting secretary general Benson Okwaro, that powerful individuals with a score to settle are pressuring police to prosecute Atwoli.

Okwaro said police investigating the killing of Muchai and his three aides on February 7 have raised concern over undue influence.

“This is a scheme by some powerful forces out to settle their differences with the Cotu leadership. Even the police have raised concern over the undue influence not to execute their investigations professionally,” Okwaro said.

Okwaro making a veiled reference to those implicating Atwoli in Muchai’s murder said police should be allowed to investigate and anyone with evidence to forward it to police.
