National carrier Kenya Airways (KQ) could resume flights to Liberia and Sierra Leone in a fortnight, Cabinet Secretary for Health James Macharia said on Monday.

Saying that the decision was arrived at after it was established that the two Ebola-hit nations have stabilised,  Macharia said his ministry is consulting with stakeholders to review resumption dates.

Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone are among West African countries that recorded widespread transmission of Ebola in the 2014. An estimated 12,000 deaths occurred.

The epidemic affected flight operations in multiple countries including Kenya which banned its flight operations to the two countries.
