Deputy President William Ruto has adopted an orphan in Machakos and named her Nadia Cherono, after his mother.

The DP said that it is every Kenyans' responsibility to take care of the less fortunate and added that other interests should be secondary.

Ruto asked education players involved in resolving the teachers' pay hike stalemate to consider children, whom he termed the future of the nation.

“We can campaign for whatever position we want but the bottomline is we must put the interests of the nation before our individual requirements," he added.

He was speaking during the launch of a sustainability fund for the Madre Ippolita children’s home in Ndithini, Machakos county.

Ruto called for unity saying it is required for development, and said the government will serve all citizen regardless of their political affiliations.

“We are ready to work with your leaders because this is a government for all Kenyans. We must subordinate our personal interests to the greater interests of our nation," he said.

MP Itwiku Mbai lauded the government for implementing road construction, water supply and education projects in Masinga constituency.

He said the Masinga Technical Training Institute will benefit youths who may not qualify to join colleges and universities.
