Issack Hassan handed over to new IEBC boss Wafula Chebukati and walked out of his office for the last time on Friday.

He gave Chebukati a white bag branded 'IEBC' as they shook hands.

"Today Hassan took away his last personal belonging from the IEBC chairman's office; a prayer mat," the commission wrote on Twitter.

Chebukati was sworn in by Chief Justice David Maraga at the Supreme Court on Friday.

Commissioners Consolata Nkatha, Bucha Maina, Boya Molu, Roselyn Akombe, Paul Kurgat, Margaret Wanjala Mwachanya and Abdi Guliye also took their oaths of office.

Chebukati accepted the responsibilities and pledged to serve Kenyans faithfully.

"I pledge to serve with integrity and without discrimination. I accept my appointment with humility and gratitude," he said.

President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Chebukati as the new IEBC chairman, following his approval by Parliament.

The seven form the new team replacing Issack Hassan and his team of commissioners who resigned in October last year.

The President earlier met the outgoing officials and thanked them for their service to the nation.
