One Killed, Another Injured During Nyandarua Protests

One person was shot dead and another injured during protests in Nyandarua town on Saturday evening.

The residents were protesting the issuance of Jubilee Certificate to incumbent Wanjiku Muhia who had allegedly lost to Faith Gitau during Women Rep nominations.

The protests started at Fry-Over area in Kinangop before spreading to other major towns in the county among them Engineer, Miharati, Ol-Kalou, Maili Nne and Ndaragwa.

Anti-riot police were forced to fire in the air to disperse the residents who accused the Judiciary of overturning the will of the people.

Several other people were reported to have sustained minor injuries as they engaged police in running battles in Kinangop.

The deceased died while undergoing treatment at Kijabe Mission Hospital where the other person is also admitted.
