Machakos governor candidate Bernard Kiala is set to step down for Wiper nominee Wavinya Ndeti on Friday.

This was brokered by a NASA sub-committee keen on solidifying the coalition's vote in perceived battle grounds.

Kiala lost the Wiper ticket to Wavinya after contentious primaries which were repeated twice and plagued with court battles.

He decided to run as an independent candidate sparking tension between Senator Johnson Muthama and Wiper boss Kalonzo Musyoka.

Whereas Muthama backed Kiala, Kalonzo asked Wavinya to ditch her CCU party and join Wiper. The storm threatened the opposition's chances of capturing the seat from governor Alfred Mutua of Mandeleo Chap Chap.
