A police constable attached to Murang’a police station is being investigated following allegations that he defiled a 17-year old suspect who was being held in the police cells.

It is said the police who was on duty went to the cell where the minor was being held alone and committed the heinous act on the night of September 30.

The issue was made public on social media by a whistle blower identifying himself as Jeff Nelson who was allegedly being held in the male cells.

Nelson wrote on facebook that he had been arrested and accused of obstructing police officers in their line of duty which has been confirmed by Murang’a East OCPD Johnstone Limo.

He said he was sharing a cell with 6 other suspects and that in the dead of the night, a male cop who seemed to be in his 30s walked into the cells area and switched off the lights.

“The cop then proceeded to the women cells where the juvenile was being held alone. I peeped through the cell door and I could hear some movements and murmurs only for the cop to come out 10 minutes later zipping his trousers,” Nelson said.

He said the police officer then proceeded to the toilets where he removed a used condom and threw it over the toilets roof before cleaning himself.

According to him, the cop then went to the report office and went back to the ladies cell with a toilet paper that he handed the girl.

“I made a sound to let him know that I had seen what he had done and he turned around shocked and came straight to the male cell. I got scared because I did not know what would happen to me,” he added.

The cop unlocked the door and pulled him out of the cell before handing him a cigarette and tells him that ‘Wanaume ni kuelewana’ and left without locking him back in the cell.

This, he said, gave him the chance to interrogate the girl who said the cop promised to bail her out if she gave in to his demands.

But according to the OCPD, the police took over the matter after the whistle blower made it public on Facebook and have recorded his statement and that of the two police officers who were on duty on that day.

“There was a male and female officer in the report office that night and we are conducting investigations to establish whether the allegations are true,” he said.

Limo noted that the police have talked to the victim who is now being remanded at Murang’a prison after she failed to post bail in court and she confirmed that she had been defiled.

The girl, he added had been arrested over theft of clothes in students’ hostels at Murang’a university college.

He however noted that the whistle blower has refused to visit the police station and had to record his statements elsewhere.

He further added that the police officer has not been arrested as the matter is still being investigated by the Criminal Investigations Department.

“Once our investigations are complete, the said officer will be charged in court at once,” said the police boss.
