Seven teachers who allegedly assisted nine candidates to cheat in exams last year at Tenges Boys’ High School in Baringo Central Sub-county have been interdicted.

The accused teachers, one supervisor and six invigilators are Reuben Mambei, Linah Kiprop, Lily Too, Daniel Kiplimo, Francis Kiptalam, Keitany Kipkirui and Priscilla Tisia.

“They both still have pending case in court and in the process they were rendered jobless after being interdicted” Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Baringo branch Secretary Joshua Cheptarus told Star on Tuesday.

He therefore declined to reveal more details but he called on teachers to join hands in solidarity of their accused colleagues to be courteous and think twice when being called to man the national exams in future.

“It is not a must that you take the risk duty that will later turn to cost your job, put you into unnecessary expenditure and brands you an outcast in the society” Cheptarus warned teachers.

The 16 suspects (Teachers and students) who were arraigned before Kabarnet Principal Magistrate Samson Temu on December 7, denied claims.

Temu heard that on 23rd November at 10am, the accused were found exchanging history paper 2 amid the last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

“On the material day you were found in the above said school negligently causing the nine candidates gain possession of unauthorized written material of History paper two” Mr Temu read in the charge sheet.

They face charges with possession of unauthorized written materials contrary to section (1) of the KNEC act 29 of 2012.

They all denied the charges and were released each with sh50, 000 bond with surety of the same or cash bail of sh20, 000.

The nine students were Kukat Victor, Boaz Kipsang, Wycliffe Chelanga, Kipkoech Kevin, Noah Chepyegon, Bravin Rerimoi, Anthony Kibet, Henry Kipchumba and Ian Cherutich.

They were also denied the charges and were released on bond of sh50, 000 each with similar surety or cash bail of sh10,000 each.
