Todonyang Chief Ekal Lochamin has been shot dead by suspected Merille bandits from Ethiopia on Tuesday.

Confirming the incident Area OCPD of Turkana North, Francis Siror said the suspected armed bandits from Ethiopia who were in a mission of cattle rustling killed the area chief who was heading to Lowareng'ak.

"In the morning hours the suspected Merrille bandits from Ethiopia gunned down Lochamin who was on his way on a motorbike to Lowareng'ak on peace mission in Turkana North." Siror said.

He said just after the ambush and killing of the area chief who was shot on the head several times the bandits managed to escape.

He said Lochamin has been the key founder of peace in Todanyang as he has held many meetings for peaceful coexistence in the region.

Its barely three weeks since two Fishermen were killed and six injured at Todonyang following an an ambush by suspected militia along Kenya-Ethiopia border on 12th of July.

Siror has urged residents of Todonyang to remain calm as the police officers together with neighbouring security personnel have launched the manhunt to apprehend the culprits to face the law.
