Love is blind! City woman weds visually impaired man in unique wedding
They say love is blind and for John Njoroge, this stands true.
John, who is visually impaired, wed the love of his life, 37-year-old, Joyce Kagure.
The bride, Joyce Kagure, arrived at Deliverance Church Kimende town, Kiambu with her parents at around 10 am, five minutes after her husband John Njoroge.
Songs of praises filled the air when they walked in, and soon after presiding Reverend Faith Wangunyu thanked the choir as the service began.
Reverend John Kamau, who conducted the marriage service, described the couple as brave.
"Joyce can see John physically, but John says he sees Joyce with her inner eyes. This is a very unique wedding," he said.
Kagure said she met Njoroge in church five years ago when he was leading the praise and worship team.
"I found myself speaking to him a lot. Friendship and a relationship developed. We shared so many stories," she said.
"He gave me advice on the challenges I was facing and I also encouraged him."
There was laughter in church when Njoroge said he had found "other eyes".
"She will be my eyes. I see her beauty in my inner eyes, and she will be my eyes to see what I can't see," he said.
Kagure said she had been advised by friends not to marry Njoroge.
"The wisdom I got from him, made me love him more. It silenced the doubts about our union. I thank God that He has finally given me a husband," she said.
Njoroge, 36, graduated after taking a course as a telephone operator and customer care at Thika School for the Blind. He is looking for a job.
His wife works at Cleanshelf Supermarket.
Kagure's uncle Benson Njenga said initially the family was disturbed by their relationship and marriage plans.
"When she broke the news about the marriage, we were disturbed. I'm sure some people tried to discourage her, but I didn't because she is an adult," he said.
Njoroge's family friend Simon Kareke said he has found a helper. He said Njoroge needed attention from the family and more so a wife.
"We are happy and we are praying that God will bless them. We also appealing to well-wishers to give Njoroge," Kareke said.
Rev Wangunyu told worshipers to pray for the couple since they have agreed to stay together.
"They have taught us a lesson that everything is possible in the eyes of our Lord and more so to the people living with disabilities. They have a life before the eyes of God," she said.
Their best couple John Mutysia and Elizpha Wairimu too said they couldn't resist the couple's request to oversee their wedding since they were their great friends.
After the wedding and reception in the church compound, the couple left for Njoroge's home in Hilton village in Kijabe ward to start a new life at 6pm.
