The decision by a Kisumu court to have Homabay county speaker Elizabeth Ayoo remain in office has political ramification for the political matrix of the county.

The county has been having a protracted political upheaval for sometime now.

The victory of governor Cyprian Awiti had been challenged in court by his main challenger in the 2017 polls Oyugi Magwanga.

The victory was initially nullified right from the High court to Court of Appeal.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to determine the fate of the second time governor today.

But this could have informed the somewhat political tension that have prevailed in the county for now two years.

Chaos have rocked the county assembly with violent episodes reported regularly last year. The MCAs had purported to impeach the speaker.

There are some quarters that opines that the speaker is targeted because of her likelihood of ascending to be the county's boss if the supreme court quashes the election of Awiti.

Some observers still opines that the squabbles in the county are being orchestrated by two political factions, one led by the women representative Glady Wanga and the other by National Assembly minority leader John Mbadi, both said to be gunning for the county's top seat in 2022.

The two leading politicians, however, deny the claims.

Now that the speaker is effectively in office as ordered by  Labour and Relation Court judge Nduma Nderi, Ayoo could be effectively on her way to inherit Awiti's seat should he be dethroned by the apex court.

The hearing of the petition is scheduled to proceed on March 5.
