Residents of Eburru in village in Gilgil are in shock after two minors were allegedly defiled by a secondary school student.

Following the incident police mounted a manhunt for the form two student who has since gone into hiding after the incident.

This came as human rights activist expressed their concern over an increase in cases of sexual abuse cases targeting minors in the town.

In the latest incident, the teenager was found in the act by the roadside by a member of the public who in turn told the parents after rescuing the ten year old minor.

According a children activist Sakina Mohammed, the minor was taken to a nearby health center where it was confirmed that she had been abused.

She said that on being questioned, the minor said that this was not the first time that the teenager had abused her adding that she was not the only victim.

“The ten year old girl narrated how the suspect would lure them using sweets and mandazis adding this was not the first time,” she said.

According to Sakina, on been questioned further the minor told of the other girl who had also been defiled by the student.

“The two girls have been taken for counseling and despite pressure from some quarters, we are working with police to make sure that the suspect is arrested and taken to court,” she said.

Sakina decried the rising cases of s3xual and physical abuse cases involving minors adding that majority of the incidents were reported in informal estates.

“There is a deeper problem involving minors in Gilgil and which needs to be addressed urgently as many of them are been physically and sexually attacked by people close to them,” she said.

A senior police officer who declined to be named confirmed the defilement incident adding that medics had filled in the medical forms.

“We are seeking the teenager and once arrested we shall arraign him in court with various charges as per the law,” said the officer.
