Marseille's Andre Ayew will captain Ghana for the first time at senior level in the forthcoming Afcon qualifiers.

The country plays two final Afcon 2015 qualifers against Uganda and Togo in the next 10 days and with captain Asamoah Gyan struggling with thigh niggles, Ayew will lead the team out.

This will be the first time Ayew captains the nation at senior level in a competitive setting, but he has led Ghana before at youth level.

He famously captained the Black Satellites to the World Youth Championship title in 2009.

Ayew is widely expected to become captain of Ghana one day, having been one of the livelier and inspirational figures in the current setup. The Ayew legacy thus continues, following the exploits of his father, the legendary Abedi Pele who captained Ghana for almost 10 years.
