SOYA AWARDS: Vivian Cheruiyot Named 2016 Sports Personality Of The Year (Full List)

Olympic champion Vivian Cheruiyot was yesterday named 2016 Sports Personality of the year during SOYA Awards ceremony.

Cheruiyot was also named sports woman of the year.

The world champion had a brilliant year winning silver and gold medal in the women’s 10,000m and 5000m respectively during the Rio Olympics.

Eliud Kipchoge who also won Gold in Rio in men’s marathon was named sports man of the year while Kenya Sevens Rugby team was named Sports team of the year.

Harambee Starlets were named sports women’s team of the year after an impressive year which saw them participate in the Africa Women Cup of Nations, while Telkom Orange hockey team head coach Jos Openda walked home with coach of the year award.

Nancy Koech was named sports woman of the year with disability while the male category was won by Samuel Muchai. The ceremony was graced by former world and Olympic champion in men’s 10000m Haile Gebrasellasie.
