A struggling Mexican football team has forced its fans to go to extremes to hep them perform better.

Football fans fed up with their team's lack of trophies called a witch in order to 'clean' the bad luck covering it and end the 'evil spell'.

The witch known locally as Zulema went to Estadio Azul, home of Cruz Azul, in the city of Tula de Allende, in the central state of Hidalgo.

She is well known in Mexico for her sorcery and was called by a group of football fans who were worried about their team, as it has not won a League title since 1997 nor has played in the Liguilla title play-offs for three years.

The blonde witch decided to help the supporters, saying: 'I was not paid for this, I only wanted to show that witchcraft exists.'

She then does a ritual in which she uses plants and holy water, black and white candles, a cow and a pig head and other esoteric symbols.

After the ritual, she explained: 'In this place, in the year 1997, somebody cast an evil spell. I went here to clean it and break the spell and make the team win, at least, the next match.'
