Bayern Munich could rival Manchester United for Zinedine Zidane should they look to replace Niko Kovac following a poor start to the season.

The Bundesliga champions are languishing in sixth after the opening seven matches and Kovac, who only arrived in the summer from Eintrackt Frankfurt, is under pressure to quickly turn things around.

But according to RMC Sport, should the club look to replace the 46-year-old, Zidane, Laurent Blanc and former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger are all on the shortlist of replacements.

Zidane is the first name to crop up for all of the potential top jobs that could soon become available given he is currently out of work after choosing to leave Real Madrid in the summer.

He guided Los Blancos to a third successive Champions League title with victory over Liverpool in Kiev but he may yet opt to wait and see how the Manchester United situation plays out with Jose Mourinho still under intense scrutiny.

Wenger and Blanc, like Zidane, are both out of work currently and represent attainable managers should Kovac be shown the door.

Bayern entered the international break on the back of a humbling 3-0 defeat at home to Borussia Monchengladbach and while Kovac is unlikely to be sacked while his players are away with their countries, alternative bosses are being widely discussed.

The defeat was described in Germany as the club's lowest point for almost a decade having gone without a win in four games; an unfathomable prospect given the club's long-standing domestic superiority.

A crisis meeting was held on Sunday and Kovac will know he will need to find some solutions to the squad's mounting problems or he could find himself taken out of the firing line.
