Former Real Madrid and Schalke striker Raul Gonzalez's record as the player who has scored the most UEFA Champions League goals (71) could be equaled or broken this week.

With 70 goals in the competition, Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo, is one of the two front-runners for the honour and how fitting it is that he could set a new UEFA Champions League goals record against Liverpool tonight at the Santiago Bernabeu, Raul's former stomping ground.

If at all he manages to break that record tonight, the Portuguese powerhouse will still have to watch over his back as his nemesis Lionel Messi is not far behind. The Argentine attacker has 69 goals in the competition and he is expected to lead Barcelona's search for goals against Ajax Amsterdam tomorrow.
