Police in Kinangop are holding a 69-year-old man who clobbered his elderly wife to death following a domestic dispute.

The man used a metal rod to kill his 68-year-old wife in Munyaka village after the duo quarreled on Sunday evening after having supper.

The shaken man was later arrested and locked at Njabini police station as police moved in to investigate the case and charge him in court.

According to a neighbor John Kamau, the couple had for years argued even in public over the man’s drinking habits.

He said that on Sunday night, the two argued again with the man grabbing a metal rod and hitting the elderly woman on the head with it.

“We were woken by screams and rushed to the home only to find the woman writhing in pain and covered in blood before she passed on,” he said.

Confirming the incident, Kinangop OCPD Yawa Chome said that the man who was very remorseful had been arrested and was in custody.

He said that murder charges would be preferred against him after investigations by police into the incident were done.

“The initial information we have is that the two were involved in a quarrel before the man took a metal and hit the woman with it on the head,” he said.

Meanwhile, police in Naivasha have arrested a trader from Nakuru who was found ferrying game meat to Nairobi from Gilgil town.

Drama unfolded along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway as the officers chased a car ferrying the zebra meat before the trader was arrested in Kayole estate.

A witness Simon Kariuki said that the personal car was flagged down along the highway but the driver declined and speed off.

“There was a chase on the highway and the driver abandoned the vehicle and speed on foot before he was arrested in Kayole estate,” he said.

On checking, the officers found over 100kgs of zebra meat stashed in gunny bags according to the witness before the man was taken to Naivasha police station and locked in.

A senior police officer confirmed the incident adding that cases of game meat trade were on the rise in the area with the meat destined to Nairobi, Kiambu and Limuru.
