More than 20 schools may not reopen in Kerio Valley due to tensions over increased banditry attacks in the region where four people have been killed in the last three weeks.

Coordinator of Catholic Peace and Justice Commission, Samwel Kosgey says the government should intervene to restore security in the region where 600 teachers have also vowed to boycott classes.

Kosgey says political leaders should also engage communities in dialogue over peace and reconciliation.

Late last year, more than 3,000 people were left homeless in a series of attacks in Baringo and other parts of Kerio Valley. According to the Catholic Church, the increased attacks by bandits in the region were being instigated by some political leaders.
