Police were last night called to quell an unrest by some of the Daystar University’s Nairobi Campus. The students were protesting a failed meeting between the Senate and the student leadership to discuss an audit report on financial management.

This angered the students who sought explanation on the failure. Police were called into the campus with orders to evict the students and some parents who were present causing a standoff.

A tear gas canister was thrown at the group forcing them to scatter for safety.

There has been increasing unrest at the institution for a while after students demanded the resignation of Vice Chancellor Timothy Wachira over mismanagement.

On Thursday, April 5, the students boycotted classes to protest the leadership of Dr Wachira.

Meanwhile, a night guard is being sought after he assaulted a motorbike rider killing him in Mukuru slums, Nairobi. The rider was injured in the head after the assault and went to a local clinic where he was treated and discharged before retiring to his house.

His body was discovered in the house hours after the incident. Police say they are looking for the guard for grilling and possible arraignment following the incident. The body was moved to the mortuary.
