Reportedly the kids Hassan Abbas and Jonah Kiplagat aged between four and five years were playing outside their compound in Marigat Inn estate before suddenly disappearing on Tuesday around 5:30 pm.
“My son with his friend had just arrived from school that afternoon and I warned them not to go far and I left them playing within the compound” Yussuf Abbas father of the late Hassan told Media on Thursday.
He said the deceased were both pupils at St Joseph Academy and his wife was then busy with the house chores when he left them to attend his business in Marigat town.
Their lifeless bodies were later on Thursday around 4pm found along the flooded River Perkerra near Marigat KEFRI offices, about 200 metres away from their home.
Residents had since been aiding police in their search, since occurrence of the fateful incident.
The cause of their deaths has not yet been established as security officers have been called upon to fast track investigation to ascertain the cause of the deaths of the kids.
Confirming the incident, Marigat OCPD Benjollife Munuve suspected that the children might have accidentally drowned adding that they are still pursuing the case and they have taken the bodies for postmortem.
He further appealed to parents in the sub-county to keep an eye on their children in order to avoid such fateful incidences in the future.
Between April and May seven people have lost lives in Baringo while close to 10,000 residents get displaced due to flash floods in parts of Baringo North Sub-county.
Among the affected areas were Salabani, Sokotei, Eldume, Ol’ Samburmbur, Ng’ambo, Sanadai and Kiserian.
Over 800 Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) persons camp at Eldume in Marigat after bandits from neighboring community attacked their Mukutani primary school in March last year.
The floods also swept away Eldume foot bridge connecting El’ Ngarua and Eldume villages and destroyed over 600 hectors of farms at Murda and Perkerra irrigation schemes.
