On Sunday, marathoner Eliud Kipchoge made history by becoming the fastest marathoner in the world during the Berlin marathon, after crossing the finish line after two hours, one minute and 39 seconds.

Kipchoge beat Dennis Kimetto’s world best of 2:02:57; which was as well set in Berlin back in 2014.

After the fete, the 33-year-old Olympic champion pocketed a cool Ksh.12 million from the Berlin Marathon, not forgetting other prizes from his sponsors.

In Berlin Marathon, the winners are given cash rewards of about 50,000 US dollars each ( Which is approximately Ksh. 5 million).

Kipchoge also picked up an additional prize of around 69,000 USD (Ksh.7 million) for setting the world’s best time. Sema kukafunga!

His sponsors, Isuzu East Africa signed a partnership deal with the decorated athlete last year which saw Kipchoge pocket a whooping Sh7m and an additional brand new D-max for training and personal use.

Isuzu then promised to reward him with a brand new D-Max Luxury double cabin if he breaks the world record and it's safe to say he is now the proud owner of the luxury vehicle.

Kipchoge's heroics saw Nandi Governor Stephen Sang honor him by renaming Kipchoge Stadium in Kapsabet to be known as Eliud Kipchoge Sports Complex.
The stadium had been named after veteran athlete Kipchoge Keino but Sang said the name would be changed following the exemplary performance by Eliud in the Berlin Marathon where he broke the World record.
