Fake doctor James Mugo Ndichu alias Dr Mugo wa Wairimu is expected in court today following his arrest last evening in Gachie area, Kiambu County after being on the run for two weeks.

Mugo was arrested by Flying Squad officers who had been staking on him for the better part of the day. He was hiding in a house belonging to his cousin when police found him last evening at about 7pm.

Mugo has been avoiding police dragnets since November 3 after he learnt his staff had been arrested in Nairobi. The two staff who were interns at his clinic in Kayole have since been charged in court.

Police pursuing him say he has been using up to 15 different sim cards in communicating with different people even as he changed places he sleeps and spends time.

He tried to seek representation of a criminal lawyer when he is arrested and arraigned but the lawyer declined. Mugo is accused of sexually assaulting a sedated patient while posing as a medical doctor.

He is now wanted for allegedly operating illegal clinic in Kayole, Nairobi.

Meanwhile, more than 5,000 more traffic cases were yesterday recorded by police in ongoing crackdown on public service vehicles in the country. Police say the operation to enforce the Michuki rules is ongoing and are urging motorists to adhere to the law.

More matatus are complying. Police say they are also targeting motorcycles. Matatu operators called off a strike they had called on Monday after they were threatened by state agencies with serious sanctions.
