A 16-year-old boy from Poi in Baringo North Sub-county cheats death after being bitten by a poisonous snake on Monday.

Andrew Cherono was rushed immediately to Kipsaraman Catholic Dispensary where he was injected with anti-snake venom drugs and survived the bite by stray deadly black mamba.

“He was herding his family cows around 10am when the deadly reptile descended to bite his left foot” Saimo Kipsaraman MCA John Aengwo said.

The victim is a form student at Kapchepkor secondary school in the same sub-county.

After being monitored closely the nurses said he was in stable condition before discharging him from the dispensary at around 4pm.

Wednesday last week, a 45-year old man from Katibel village in Kerio Valley succumbed after he was bitten by a Black Mamba snake.

"He accidentally stumbled and fell on the venomous Black Mamba snakes that bite him on the ankle of his right leg" Kapluk Senior Assistant Chief Alfred Cherutich said.

He said the victim unfortunately died within 20minites on the way while he was being rushed to Kapluk dispensary located 8kilometres away.

The administrator confirmed that there were no doses of anti-snake venom drugs available at the county local dispensaries.

Death toll of snake bites hits five this year in Baringo North alone after 14-year old standard eight girl at Turbei primary school Benadine Chelanga died after being bitten by a buff adder on October 20.
